Concrete Jungles

Jimmy McIntyre is a travel photographer who shoots cityscapes and I found an interview were he discusses his best tips for shooting in the city. I like this type of photography because the more urban environment is the type of place I grew up in and would like to be.

Plane Awesome

While looking up exotic places to shoot for our midterm project, I came across Maho Beach in Sint Maarten, which lies 150 feet from the threshold of the main runway at Princess Juliana International Airport. Photographers Josef and Jakob Hoflehner stayed on the beach from 2009 through 2011 to compile their book Jet Airliner: The Complete Works. Below are some of their works.

Also included are various photos circulating the internet of the beach, but now in color

2nd Blog Post

In preparation of our arctic adventure, I found picturesque pictures of the fjords I like to visit in Sweden and Norway. I would like the fjords to be on of the focal points of the photography on the  landscape side of the project.

Photo Editing Before & After

The first photo was taken with a GoPro auto setting with a red filter
For my first edit, I cropped my brother out of the top to focus more on the turtle. I also removed all of the green to give it a more balanced look as well as adjusted the exposure
The next picture was taken with an Olympus point and shoot on auto of a rock climbing trip in Wyoming

The first thing I did was crop the enormous foreground and remove a dead tree. I also adjust the contrast of the sky to give the edge of the frame a bit more white to it while keeping to blue above the rock face.

My last picture was taken on campus with a Droid cell phone in auto mode.
The first thing I did was brighten the snow to make it white rather than the gray color it became.

Good Picture vs Bad Picture

On a trip to Devils Tower, I took a lot of pictures and not all of them where winners, below are some losers and their winning counterpart.
